Course description

The ITIL® 5 Strategy course focuses on strategic management of digital products and services in modern organizations. It helps participants understand how to design, plan, and execute strategies that support business objectives and digital transformation.

Participants learn how to use the ITIL Strategy Management Model, which includes both strategy development and implementation lifecycles. The course also explains how to operate in complex and uncertain (VUCA) environments and how to make informed strategic decisions.

The training covers key strategic capabilities such as leadership, communication, innovation, organizational change management, risk management, sustainability, and AI governance.

The course prepares participants for the ITIL® Strategy (Version 5) certification exam.

Day 1: Strategy in the context of ITIL
  • Key concepts of ITIL, digital products and services
  • ITIL Value System, guiding principles and four dimensions of service management
  • The role of strategy in digital transformation
  • VUCA environment and its impact on strategic decision-making
  • Business models, operating models and connecting IT with business objectives
Day 2: Developing a digital strategy
  • ITIL Strategy Management Model
  • Lifecycle of strategy development
  • Observe, orient, decide and plan phases
  • Analysis of the external environment, PESTLE factors and internal capabilities
  • Working with data, resources, risks and strategic priorities
  • Translating strategic intentions into a concrete plan
Day 3: Strategy implementation and preparation for the exam
  • Lifecycle of strategy implementation
  • Plan, execute, synthesize and reflect phases
  • Managing strategic initiatives and evaluating benefits
  • Continuous improvement and sustainability of strategy
  • Strategic capabilities: leadership, communication, innovation, AI governance, portfolio and risk management
  • Topic recap and preparation for the ITIL® Strategy certification exam

  • Exam language: English (other languages available)
  • Number of questions: 40
  • Time limit: 90 minutes
  • Closed-book format
  • Passing score: 28/40 (70%)
  • Certification validity: 3 years
  • Exam format: paper-based (on the last day of the course) or online after the course
