PRINCE2® Project Management Foundation Exam (Version 7)

Not necessarily – you need to hold a PRINCE2 Foundation certification (in any version), or alternatively an IPMA certification, CAPM or PMP. However, the most common path is through PRINCE2 Foundation, as the Practitioner course builds directly on its content.

While PMP and IPMA assess broader project management knowledge and experience, PRINCE2 Practitioner tests your ability to apply and tailor the specific PRINCE2 method to a real project scenario. The exam therefore works with a comprehensive case study rather than focusing only on isolated questions.

Tailoring means adapting the PRINCE2 method to a specific type of project, industry or organisation, because no real project follows a textbook model exactly. While Foundation provides an understanding of the core principles, Practitioner teaches you how to adapt them in practice without compromising their effectiveness.

Foundation verifies your understanding of PRINCE2 terminology and principles, but it does not demonstrate that you can apply them to a real project. Practitioner fills this gap by validating your ability to use and tailor PRINCE2 in practice, making it particularly valuable for project managers who want to demonstrate greater independence and practical competence.
