A combined course saves time, since both levels build on each other and are covered in a single continuous block with no waiting between dates. Splitting them makes more sense if you want to leave time between the courses to gain practical experience and consolidate your knowledge.
No, both exams can be taken within a single combined course with no required break between them. The only condition for moving on to Practitioner is passing the Foundation exam.
It's a more intensive form of study, since the content of both levels is covered in a short period of time. The advantage is that the subject matter doesn't get lost between courses, and the knowledge from Foundation is put to immediate use when practicing practical application at the Practitioner level.
Foundation only verifies your understanding of the principles, while the combined course takes you all the way to demonstrating that you can apply the methodology to a real project scenario. The result is a complete certification path with no waiting for a follow-up course date.
